Expansion Rules
Everything the four Seizer expansions add to the game and how they score.
🧩 The Expansions
All expansions are free. Turn them on in the game settings when you create a game with friends or a bot game. You can play with any mix of them. Ranked matchmaking and tournaments use the base game only.
Seizer is an independent game, so the expansions have their own names here. The rules are the standard ones.
- 🌊 The River Path is the River expansion.
- 🍺 Taverns & Temples is the Inns & Cathedrals expansion.
- 🐖 Merchants & Makers is the Traders & Builders expansion.
- 🌷 Abbot is the Abbot expansion.
🌊 The River Path
12 river tiles that form the start of the map instead of the single starting tile.
Placing the river
- • The game starts with the river spring tile in the middle of the map.
- • Everyone holds 1 tile until the river is done. Each turn you place your river tile so the river keeps flowing.
- • The river only flows two ways: downstream from the spring, and to one side. The first bend picks the side, and every bend after that must turn the same way, so the river never loops back and every river tile always fits somewhere.
- • Only river tiles can be placed until the river is finished. Once the river lake is placed, everyone draws up to their normal hand size and the game continues as usual.
Followers on river tiles
- • You can place a follower on a city, road, monastery or field on the river tile you just placed, like on any other tile.
- • You cannot place a follower on the river itself.
- • The river splits fields, so it matters for farmers at the end of the game.
- • The river adds no points. It only shapes the map.
🎴 River tiles

🍺 Taverns & Temples
18 new tiles with taverns and temples, plus one big follower for each player.
🍺 Taverns
A road with a tavern scores 2 points per tile instead of 1.
The road must be complete. An unfinished road with a tavern scores 0 at the end of the game.
⛪ Temples
A city with a temple scores 3 points per tile and 3 per shield instead of 2.
The city must be complete. An unfinished city with a temple scores 0 at the end of the game.
👑 Big follower
Each player gets one big follower. It counts as 2 followers when deciding who owns a feature.
Place it like a normal follower. It comes back to you when the feature is completed.

🐖 Merchants & Makers
24 new tiles with trade goods, plus a builder and a pig for each player.
🍷 Trade goods
- • Some city tiles carry wine, grain or cloth.
- • When a city is completed, the player who placed the tile that finished it takes all the goods in that city. It does not matter who owns the city.
- • At the end of the game, the player with the most wine gets 10 points. Same for grain and cloth.
- • If players tie for the most of a good, they all get 10 points.
🔨 Builder
- • Place the builder on a road or city where you already have a follower.
- • Whenever you place a tile that extends that road or city, you take one extra turn right after.
- • You cannot chain extra turns. The tile placed in the extra turn does not give another one.
- • The builder comes back to you when its road or city is completed.
🐖 Pig
- • Place the pig on a field where you already have a farmer.
- • At the end of the game, if you own that field, each completed city it touches is worth 4 points instead of 3.
- • The pig stays on the field until the end of the game.
Keep in mind: the builder and the pig are not followers. They never count when deciding who owns a feature, and they do not stop other players from placing a follower there.

🌷 Abbot
One abbot for each player, plus nine tiles with a garden. Eight of them replace base game tiles, and one replaces a river bend when the river is on, so the total number of tiles does not change.
🧑🦲 Abbot
- • Each player gets one abbot.
- • Place it like a follower, but only on a monastery or a garden on the tile you just placed.
- • It scores like a monk: 9 points when the eight tiles around it are placed, or 1 point plus 1 per neighbouring tile at the end of the game.
🌷 Gardens
- • Nine tiles carry a garden.
- • Only the abbot may stand on a garden. Normal followers cannot.
- • A garden is complete when its eight neighbours are placed, just like a monastery.
↩️ Taking the abbot back
- • On any turn, instead of placing a follower, you can take your abbot back.
- • You score its current value right away: 1 point plus 1 per neighbouring tile.
- • This ends the follower placement step, and the abbot is ready to place again on a later turn.
